The Decision Tree Democracy or Dictatorship: Where Would You Rather Live? shows the difference between the two political systems in a light-hearted way. The Decision Tree invites young people to make choices; would you prefer decision-making through dialogue, or do you prefer quick decisions? Would you tolerate dog poo on the street, or do you demand a clean pavement?

Concepts such as democracy and dictatorship can be very abstract for young people. Yet your everyday life can be deeply affected by the kind of political system you live in. Democracy is far from perfect, but the alternative might be worse. The Decision Tree light-heartedly confronts young people with the consequences of their own choices in a gentle manner and helps them understand abstract concepts such as democracy and dictatorship.

The Decision Tree: print it, hang it up, fill it

You can hang the poster in the classroom, or perhaps even use it as part of a lesson or activity. In this appendix, you’ll find some ideas.
